Title: A Court of Frost and Starlight
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Started: April 16, 2019
Finished: April 20, 2019
Pages: 272
Genre: Young Adult
First Sentence: The first snow of winter had begun whipping through Velaris an hour earlier.
Summary: [From BN] Narrated by Feyre and Rhysand, this bridges the events in A Court of Wings and Ruin and the upcoming novels in the series. New in the #1 New York Times bestselling Court of Thorns and Roses series, A Court of Frost and Starlight is a glimpse into the lives of Feyre and Rhys as they begin to recover from the war that changed their world. Feyre, Rhysand, and their close-knit circle of friends are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly-changed world beyond. But Winter Solstice is finally near, and with it, a hard-earned reprieve. Yet even the festive atmosphere can't keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, she finds that those dearest to her have more wounds than she anticipated — scars that will have a far-reaching impact on the future of their Court.
Thoughts: In many ways, this book felt like an interlude. The author is trying to bridge two of the main books in the series with a character study. What happens when everyone we love comes back from war? What happens when we repress emotions? How do those who were left behind but still feel the consequences cope? This book feels incredibly different from the rest of the series because it's driven by emotion instead of plot. I think Maas did a great job of being delicate with her characters and showing them in vulnerable positions.
Don't go into to this expecting the next book in the series. This is just a break in the action. It feels like a rest, but the story is still compelling.
Rating: 7/10 [Very Good]
