Title: Always and Forever, Lara Jean
Author: Jenny Han
Started: March 23, 2019
Finished: March 25, 2019
Pages:336
Genre: Young Adult
First Sentence: I like to watch Peter when he doesn't know I'm looking.
Summary: [From BN] Lara Jean is having the best senior year a girl could ever hope for. She is head over heels in love with her boyfriend, Peter; her dad’s finally getting remarried to their next door neighbor, Ms. Rothschild; and Margot’s coming home for the summer just in time for the wedding. But change is looming on the horizon. And while Lara Jean is having fun and keeping busy helping plan her father’s wedding, she can’t ignore the big life decisions she has to make. Most pressingly, where she wants to go to college and what that means for her relationship with Peter. She watched her sister Margot go through these growing pains. Now Lara Jean’s the one who’ll be graduating high school and leaving for college and leaving her family—and possibly the boy she loves—behind. When your heart and your head are saying two different things, which one should you listen to?
Thoughts: This was the last book in the series and it felt like saying goodbye to a friend. This book wrapped up the story exactly how I thought it would, but that did not diminish my enjoyment. Lara Jean is just a character you're happy to know. In fact, the entire family is fun to follow.
I think what I like most about this book is that it feels real. There's no random drama for drama's sake. Lara Jean has to make some true-to-life decisions and those decisions have consequences. Her choices are also impacted by her lived experiences and the actions of those around her. When the author brings in characters to change the story, it doesn't feel forced. Their actions and motivations are entirely understandable. In many ways, it fells like Han just chronicled a family that lives down the street.
I'm a little bit sad to say goodbye to this series. I want to know what happens next for Lara Jean and the important people in her life. I know all good things must come to and end, but I'm kind of hoping we get a book 4 one day.
