On Saturday, The Husband ran in his first marathon. He's been training for six months. He's trained in the cold and in the rain. He's run through aches and IT band pain. He's run when he's wanted to sleep and he's run when he was busy. He even ran when we were on vacation on Bermuda.
For six months he's been listening to the Harry Potter audio books as he's accumulated miles and miles and miles of distance.
On Saturday, all that hard work was put to the test. It was a cold morning and he had to wake up at 4 a.m. to eat, get ready, and make it to the start line on time. As most of the city slept, The Husband set out with about 3,000 others to accomplish a bucket list item that most never dare to attempt.
The course twisted and turned through the city, but it was the back half everyone feared. 13.1 miles up and down hills and along the river. 13.1 miles with few spectators. 13.1 miles where it's mind over body.
I cheered him on at miles 6 and 11. I cheered him on at miles 18, 20, and 21 where the course looped back on itself. I was there with tears in my eyes as he ran across the finish line.
I feel nothing but pride.
He set a goal and put in the effort.
He finished.
