Thoughts: In my quest to READ ALL THE THINGS about hand-lettering and calligraphy, I picked up this book as I was browsing at the library. I was pleasantly surprised. This book does a fantastic job of covering the basics. It breaks down the fundamentals in a way that is easy to understand but also allows you to see how everything comes together in the end. What I liked most about this book was how much time it devoted to showing how letters of various fonts are formed. Rodriguez shows a step-by-step process that is both easy to follow and to copy.

As with other books, this title covers all the tools and supplies you need. It also discuses adding dimension, frames, designs, accents, ligatures, and all that sort of stuff to you letters. Again, this is repetitive with other books I've read, but Rodriguez does a great job of keeping things simple without making you feel dumb.

The only thing I really skimmed over in this book is the projects. They are the same things I've seen everywhere else.
