CURRENTLY READING: The Cooking Gene by Michael Twitty
THOUGHTS?: This is a phenomenal book. Twitty's writing is beautiful, but the story he is telling is important and teaching me a lot about the history of the South and my own family who happened to be plantation owners outside of New Orleans. This book is already receiving a lot of well-deserved press and I plan on telling people they need to read it as well. It's dense in names and history, but that's what makes it so good. You won't look at food the same way after reading this.
SNACKS AND STUFF: I've just sat down to eat brunch. This is an egg and sausage casserole (line with crescent rolls) that usually makes it's appearance during readathon.
