Pairings: Tea Time

Like most women, I've read my fair share of Jane Austen novels (and seen several films to boot). Pride and Prejudice is a classic for a reason. It's a well-told romance with a vivacious female lead who was ahead of her time. The prose is eloquent and reads smoothly. This Austen work transcends time and can find an audience in every era. There is something for everyone in this book and its timeless quality means each generation can put it's spin on things. (I'm looking at you Pride and Prejudice and Zombies...) But the classic will always be the most beloved.

If you're going to pick up Pride and Prejudice for the first (or fiftieth) time, I suggest making yourself a cup of tea and classic cream scones. Like the book, these scones are traditional but can be adapted to suit all tastes. Just throw in some dried fruit or mini chocolate chips to find the flavor that suits you best. You can also top them with just about anything - lemon curd, strawberry jam, clotted cream...
