On the Noodle Road by Jen Lin-Liu is a book about how food and culture have moved along the Silk Road. The author always wondered about who invented the noodle. This beloved food appears all over the world but is most beloved in Asia and Italy. Other cultural favorites like dumplings also have their own versions in different cultures. Lin-Liu investigates just how food has traveled and evolved over time. Along the way, she sups on many a tasty dish and learns a little something about relationships and herself.
I recommend reading this book while sampling a new dish The Husband and I love: 15 minute spicy udon stir fry. It's a very easy recipe to make that you can adapt to suit your tastes. We've added celery to the veggie list but I bet any veggie would taste great. If you want to bulk up your protein, I bet strips of chicken or pork would be fantastic additions.
