FIRST SENTENCE: Every day, we're exposed to thousands of brand messages, whether we like it or not.

SUMMARY: [From BN] Branding is possibly the most powerful commercial and cultural force on the planet. Iconic names such as Coca-Cola, Nike, Manchester United, Harry Potter, and Google are known and recognized by millions of people worldwide. As the market economy spreads across the world, brands are becoming ever more prevalent. The Apple brand has been valued at $98 billion - more than the GDP of Slovakia. Every day, we're exposed to more than 3500 brand messages. And even though people are increasingly brand-aware and brand-sceptical, they are nevertheless seduced by brands. We may reject the whole brand system, but we still wouldn't be parted from our Apple Macs. Brands are impossible to escape.

THOUGHTS: I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I have no idea what possessed me to request it from the library, but something moved me so request it I did. This was an easy to read, deep dive on the topic of branding. The book is slim, but it covers all aspects of the topic - including branding history, methods, psychology, and future outlook. In many ways, this book was like a 101 college course. I enjoyed how everything was laid out and explained in a logical manner. The writing was without jargon but still captured the true essence of the subject.

If all the books in the Very Short Introduction series are as well done as this one, I'll be keeping an eye out for more of them.

RATING: 7/10 [Very Good]
