Whenever I go to a meeting, no matter how short, I always bring a pad of paper and pen with me. You never know when you'll need to write something down. Don't assume you'll be able to remember everything.
During meetings, make sure to take notes about policy/staff changes, dates, events, projects, action items, etc. Right after you finish a meeting, head back to your desk and import all the important dates and deadlines into your calendar. Place any project notes into specific files (print or digital), and create checklists for items which need to be completed ASAP.
If you keep all your notes together, you'll be sure to never forget to send an e-mail or attend follow-up meetings. The world may be digital, but sometimes the old fashioned tricks still work. A legal pad and pen can be imminently helpful to keeping projects organized and deadlines in sight.
