FIRST SENTENCE: The Angeles air was quiet, and for awhile I lay still, listening to the sound of Maxon's breathing.

SUMMARY: [From BN] The Selection began with thirty-five girls. Now with the group narrowed down to the six Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon's heart is fiercer than ever—and America is still struggling to decide where her heart truly lies. Is it with Maxon, who could make her life a fairy tale? Or with her first love, Aspen? America is desperate for more time. But the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want—and America's chance to choose is about to slip away.

THOUGHTS: The teenage dramatics of the Selection series kick-in to overdrive in book 2. There was so much angst and misunderstandings and longing and OMG-just-be-adults-already-ness in this book. But I still devoured it like a plate of Thanksgiving stuffing that someone else is eyeing and no you can't have it this is mine I want it all.

Some of the plotting and details in this book got a touch repetitive, but that sort of added to the "these are teenagers in dramatic situations" tone. At no point did I think any character was too stupid for their own good. I might not have agreed with all their decisions or actions, but it made sense in context. In some ways, the fact that things were high-drama is what kept me reading. You're rooting for the characters even when they seem to be doing things that are against their own best interests. It's frustrating but in the same way it's frustrating when you're trying to help a really good friend figure things out in life and they keep seeming to miss the mark but you still love them anyway.

Book 2 also showcased to me how cinematic this story is. Cass does a wonderful job of describing the world she created. It seems to pop-off the screen and I am not at all surprised that the movie rights for this series have been optioned.

RATING: 7/10 [Very Good]
