Useful Things: Finger Paint

Photo editing software can be extremely expensive. I'd love to have Photoshop on my computer but I can neither justify the cost nor do I need all the expert level tools it offers.

Pixlr is a fantastic Photoshop replacement. It offers the functionality that most users need with the benefit of being free.

Pixlr works in your browser so there is no need to download software to your computer. The service's Photo Editor allows you to create a new image, upload an image, or import an image for a website or digital library. Once you have your image, the editor has tools for cropping, erasing, color adjustment, red-eye removal, layers, and a myriad of other things. I recommend clicking around on the site to see just how many editions options are available. If you don't need the complete Pixlr tools, there is an Express Editor that lets you make basic (and quick adjustments) to your images.

The program also allows you to download add-ons in your browser to help grab images. If you'd like, the website offers a social media component to share images. And, like most online tools, Pixlr has a blog.

Unless you are a professional graphic designer, Pixlr offers all the tools you could possibly need to create and edit images.
